Oconto County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of 2010, the population was nearly 36,000. Its county seat is Oconto, with a population of 4,210.

Oconto County is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was established in 1851. Located in the Northeastern corner of Wisconsin, Oconto lies on the spectacular shores of the Bay of Green Bay. A quick 30 minute drive north of the bustling city of Green Bay, Oconto is considered to be by many the start of the true Wisconsin Northwood’s. Situated between dense forests, beautiful wetlands, stunning shorelines and more than 33 sites on the National Register of Historic Places, you’ll see right away why Oconto is in itself “History on the Bay”.

As the county seat for Oconto County, Oconto maintains strong economic and social ties to its neighboring towns and cities including Little River, Oconto Falls, Lena, and Peshtigo.

Comprised of roughly 35 square blocks, Oconto’s north and south sides are separated by the beautiful Oconto River.

Oconto has several community festivals throughout the year, with the largest being Copperfest, a three-day family event that takes place the second weekend in June. It’s a celebration of Oconto’s rich history and community pride.
